KGB chief and former labor camp inspector portrayed by Kurt Kasznar in the 1967 Casino Royale spoof.  Smernov accompanies M (JOHN HUSTON), Ransome (WILLIAM HOLDEN), and Le Grand (CHARLES BOYER) to an English country manor house to persuade Sir James Bond (DAVID NIVEN) to accept one last dangerous assignment.

Smernov was originally assigned to Icon 988 G.P.U. in the Siberian Sector. Sir James notes that Smernov has a noisy, clanging armory concealed in his boots.
