SPECTRE ISLAND

The training ground for assassin Donald Grant (Robert Shaw) in From Russia with Love. Under the supervision of SPECTRE field agent Morzeny (Walter Gotell), the island is the setting for the pre-credits teaser sequence, in which Grant tracks a phony James Bond (Sean Connery) through the Renaissance Garden. Later in the story, we see Grant sunbathing on the island, while a bosomy masseuse (Jan Williams) works his deltoids. Rosa Klebb (Lotte Lenya) meets Grant there and tests his fitness with a knuckle-duster to the abdomen. She also views the SPECTRE training facilities, where agents perform feats of marksmanship, karate, and other acts of mayhem, using live targets. In reality, SPECTRE Island is located on the Pinewood Studios lot. The main building is actually the studio’s administration building.
