Winter resort city in the Italian Alps that is a key setting in For Your Eyes Only. Tipped off by the Italian Secret Service that Emile Locque (Michael Gothard) is in Cortina, Bond (Roger Moore) goes there and meets Aris Kristatos (Julian Glover), who claims to be a former World War II resistance fighter and Anglophile. He’s actually a Russian agent preparing to retrieve vital equipment from the sunken hulk of the St. Georges surveillance ship.
Kristatos lies and tells Bond that Locque is working for Milos Columbo (Topol), a man he also claims is involved in drug smuggling, sex trafficking, and contract murder. Bond also meets Kristatos’s protégée, ice skater Bibi Dahl (Lynn-Holly Johnson), her teacher, Jacoba Brink (Jill Bennett), and another enemy agent, East German biathlon champion Erich Kriegler (John Wyman), who is working for Kristatos.
Bond’s local Secret Service contact, Luigi Ferrara (John Moreno), is later murdered by Locque, who leaves Columbo’s symbol—the white dove—on the body. Bond, meanwhile, has been chased on skis by Kriegler, assasulted by ski-borne motorcycles, and, later, at a hockey rink, attacked by three hapless hockey players, who end up sprawled in their own net.
