MOTORIZED TRACTION TABLE

Also known as “the rack,” this device is utilized by physical therapist Patricia Fearing (Molly Peters) to help James Bond (Sean Connery) stretch his spine in Thunderball. After strapping in 007 and turning on the mechanism, she excuses herself for fifteen minutes—during which SPECTRE agent Count Lippe (Guy Doleman) enters the room and resets the lever to its highest danger level. Bond is saved from assassination when Fearing returns in time to turn off the machine, after which Bond quips, “I must be six inches taller.” Staggering into the steam room, Bond takes Fearing with him for additional recuperative value.
