BELUGA CAVIAR

Contributed by: The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia by Steven Jay Rubin

Exotic appetizer ordered by Bond (Sean Connery) but never served during a romantic evening encounter with Domino (Claudine Auger) in Thunderball.

It’s also a prominent item in the suitcase of gourmet provisions 007 smuggles into the Shrublands health clinic in Never Say Never Again. Rather than commit himself to the clinic’s healthy dietary regimen, Bond packs “emergency” rations including the beluga, quail’s eggs, foie gras from Strasbourg, and vodka.

It’s also what black-marketeer Valentin Zukovsky (Robbie Coltrane) manufactures at his plant on the Caspian Sea in The World Is Not Enough. When the plant is obliterated by buzz-saw-wielding helicopters deployed by Renard (Robert Carlyle), Zukovsky ends up in a vat of caviar that nearly drowns him, until he supplies useful information to Bond (Pierce Brosnan).
